Who is the “Big Man” of the Old Testament?  Many would say Moses, whose name is mentioned around 700 times in the first six books of the Bible.  But beginning with the Book of Ruth, David is mentioned over 1000 times in the rest of the Old Testament.  David truly is the major figure of the first part of the Bible.  Why?

In this series of talks (the sequel to his set “Beginning with Moses”), Dr. Bergsma explains that in David’s life we see constant images of Jesus Christ.  David is the major “type” or “anticipation” of Jesus in the Old Testament.  The Historical Books are largely an account of his rise to power and then the fate of the kingdom he founded.  The Psalms are his songs of prayer and praise to God.  The Wisdom Literature was written or inspired by his great son, Solomon.  Finally, the Prophets predict the restoration of his kingdom—but that is the subject of the next CD set, “The Return of the King."
